How not to succeed in business

43% of business leaders actively de-motivate their employees, according to a new survey, and another report claims that nearly 70% of staff would benefit from a ‘thank you’ for work well-done.

A survey of 2,863 employees by the Hay Group found that 59% worked in an environment which was either de-motivating or neutral and that only 23% of those surveyed reported that their manager created a high-performing environment. In an unrelated report, consulting firm White Water Strategies found that 2/3rds of the 1,000 staff they surveyed claimed to receive insufficient praise with manual workers most likely to miss out and most likely to benefit from the odd ‘thank you’. Hay also claim that 30% of business performance can be directly related to a motivational atmosphere.
