At the time of writing, it seems that the European parliament is likely to rule against the UK retaining its current Working Time Directive opt out while the French are set to abolish the domestic legislation enshrining their traditional 35 hour week.
Watch these pages for further developments, but any organisation amongst the reported 10% who rely on employees working more than 48 hours is likely to have to make changes early in the new year to avoid legal challenge.
