In a masterpiece of bad timing, the TUC is calling for Alistair Darling to review redundancy arrangements as part of this month’s pre-budget report.
Increasing the weekly statutory redundancy pay to £500 from £330, decreasing the length of service for qualification to one year from two and raising the tax free threshold to £50,000 from £30,000 are all part of the proposals released on 13th November. How recession-hit employers are to find the extra money involved is not part of TUC General Secretary Brendan Barber’s press release.
