Research from Warwickshire University shows that stress related absence continues to rise, with more than 13.5 million absence days blamed on stress over the last year.
The research goes on to show that four in ten people receiving invalidity benefit are off work because of mental illness – more than twice as many as 20 years ago. Unrelated figures published by the recruitment web site Monster show that 50% of staff feel as if they had never been away as soon as they get back to work following a holiday and 29% say that their stress levels return to pre-holiday levels within a few weeks.
