Harriet Harman laid the Equality White Paper before Parliament at the end of June

Increase to National Minimum Wage and fuel rates

1 October will see the National Minimum Wage increased to £3.53, £4.77 and £5.73 for workers aged 16 – 17, 18 – 21 and 22 and over respectively. Fuel rates for Company car users have also gone up but not the rates for those who use their own vehicles for work.

When they can’t see the wood for the red tape

In a move which has even the CEO of the Health and Safety Executive scratching his head, BSI British Standards is drafting guidelines proposing that any owner of trees, including businesses with trees on their premises, are made accountable for bi-annual inspections to assess the risk that they pose to members of the public through ‘branch shedding’ and ‘whole tree failure’ – heavy bits falling off them, we guess.
